Small Group Tours in Europe’s Most Beautiful Places
Are you dreaming of a different kind of European vacation? An immersion in a different culture and way of life? The opportunity to get to know local people? A focus on simple pleasures? A beautiful setting in the countryside? A leisurely and relaxed pace?
If this type of vacation appeals to you, you’ll enjoy our European Experiences trips! We offer small group tours in the most beautiful areas of Europe, special places that have captured our hearts in 30 years of European travel.
Each year we offer several weeks of The Luberon Experience in Provence, France, based in the village of Bonnieux (shown below). Our other trips vary each year, as we share other wonderful places in Europe that we love with travelers looking for an in-depth experience. We’ve just wrapped up our 2024 season and are booking now for our 2025 trips. We’ll announce our 2026 schedule around March 15, 2025. (Sign up for our mailing list to get this announcement.)
The Luberon Experience was selected by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of their 50 Tours of a Lifetime for 2012. We’re very proud to be identified as one of the best tours in the world, “designed for experience, immersion, sustainability, and cultural connection.”
Now booking 2025 Trips
In 2024 we welcomed wonderful groups in Morocco, England, France, and Italy. Our last trip of the year was The European Christmas Experience (12 nights) with bases in Salzburg, Austria; Munich, Germany; and Colmar in Alsace, France.
We’re offering 28 trips in 2025. Most of our trips are led by European Experiences owner and co-founder Kathy Wood or our partner in Provence, Jennifer Dugdale. We’re joined by an excellent team of co-leaders, including Kathy’s husband and co-founder Charley (now mostly retired). Our new Inside Lyon trip will debut in 2025, led by team member, Drew Fedorka. Experienced trip leader Kelly Wood (daughter of Kathy and Charley) will host The Périgord Experience, joined by Drew.
Kathy Wood leads seven-night Experience trips in the Luberon, the Chianti region of Tuscany, the Cotswolds, Normandy in northern France, Alsace in eastern France, and Puglia in southern Italy.
Kelly Wood leads our seven-night Périgord Experience trip in the Dordogne in southwest France.
Some Experience trips are now offered every other year.
Shorter “Inside” trips
We also offer four-night “Inside” trips based in cities, with a focus on special experiences and discoveries– not the typical tourist sites. These groups are smaller, usually with a maximum of six to eight people. “Inside” trips are hosted by Jennifer Dugdale or Drew Fedorka and are intended to be combined with one of our week-long trips, but can be booked as a standalone trip. When an Inside trip is combined with an adjacent Experience, we’ll provide transportation between the two locations.
In France we offer Inside Paris and Inside Lyon, which can be combined with other trips in France. In England we offer Inside Bath before or after one our Cotswolds weeks.
Longer “Experience” trips
We also offer several longer Experience trips, which include stays in several bases. Kathy and Charley lead The Cornwall Experience (10 nights) and The European Christmas Experience (12 nights; four nights each in Salzburg, Munich, and Colmar).
Jennifer leads our new 11-night Morocco Experience trip, which was launched in March 2024. We’re especially excited about this new destination.
Trips Just for Women
We have a special commitment to help women travel. We’re delighted to offer three women’s trips in 2025: our Women’s trips often include trips in the Luberon, the Riviera Hillsides, Mediterranean Provence, Paris (our four-night “Inside” experience), and the Cotswolds. Learn more about our special European Experiences for Women.
Explore our website to learn more about our approach to travel and a typical week on one of our “Experience” trips. Join our mailing list to stay in touch with us through our newsletter (four or five times a year), including our annual schedule announcement. Facebook and Instagram are other great ways to learn more about us, follow our travels, and connect with other European Experiences travelers.
European Experiences Tours were created for travelers who've "done" the major tourist sites of Europe but yearn for a more enriching experience. In June 2026, our journey to the Cotswolds with European Experiences was yet another artfully crafted experience by this amazing company. This was our second trip with them, and once again Kathy Wood led us to interesting cultural and pastoral sites that are on and off the beaten path. We enjoyed the camaraderie of a small group of like-minded folks, ate delicious food, lodged in a family-run hotel that welcomed us as old friends, all at an insouciant but thoroughly fulfilling pace. After which we signed up for two more EE adventures. European Experiences is A+ in every way!
In 2024, when we searched for the right trip to the Perigord, we wanted an immersive experience in prehistory, exquisite cuisine, public markets, and local culture. We also wanted a small group, a comfortable (i.e., air conditioned) but quaint hotel, short daily rides, and informed guides--without having to drive ourselves. European Experiences was the perfect choice. Our tour leader Kathy Wood brilliantly curated one of the best tours we have ever experienced, which says a lot given that we have taken over 60 jaunts around the world. A bonus was that Kelly, Kathy's daughter, co-led with humor, insightful knowledge, and a steady hand. We suspect that each European Experiences tour would be similarly interesting and fulfilling since they have been conducting tours for over 20 years. We give European Experiences the highest recommendation possible.

After having been to France many times on our own my husband and I wanted to see the Luberon region. I work for an airline so we often travel spontaneously. We have only used tour companies for places like Cuba, Kenya, Morocco, places where a tour is really needed....never Europe. While looking for some info on the area my husband discovered European Experiences. After Kathy Woods, one of the owners, patiently answered many questions and emails, we decided to try this tour as time was getting short. All I can say is that this turned out to be one of the BEST travel decisions we have ever made!
Long story short, our Luberon trip with Kathy and Charley, aka European Experiences, was one of our best trips ever! After that we immediately signed up for their Chianti tip which was also amazing. And hopefully our Cornwall trip will be a go in September. Puglia is scheduled for next year.
These trips are perfect for people who love tours, AND also perfect for the more "tour phobic" among us. They are also perfect for couples, a single traveler or a small group of friends. I can attest to all three. Very small groups. No tour buses. Stays in small charming villages in small hotels for a week exploring the surrounding region daily. No unpacking and packing for the duration. Time on your own to experience the village like a local. Amazing daily excursions with Kathy and Charley that often involve things that tourists on their own could never experience due to their special relationships with some of the locals. Great food, wonderful wine, beautiful scenery. Meeting new people. And best of all, NO PLANING on your part for an amazing week you will not forget!
Honestly, our only regret is that we did not discover European Experiences earlier. But we are going to try our best to make up for lost time.

We could not have put together a better way to see the Hillsides of the French Riviera. The trip was led by the charming couple, Jennifer & Michael Dugdale. They took the responsibility and all of the worry out of travel. The Riviera Hillsides trip was unique, offering very local experiences. I do mean local! We met interesting people in out of the way places, that we never would have met or visited on your own. We had a private tour of an estate with a private dinner served by the estate staff. We toured a perfume garden with a renowned perfume expert. We visited the Matisse Chapel, a ticket worth the tour all by itself! Highly recommend. We will be seeking out another trip with European Experiences, led by Jennifer and Micheal.

My adventures with European Experiences began with the Inside Lyon trip. What a wonderful introduction to a fascinating city! It began with the Paul Bocuse Food Market, an amazing place featuring every imaginable type of French food, from cheeses, fresh friuits and veggies, desserts of all types, and wines, of course. Our excellent guide,Drew Fedorka, arranged of us to have dinner at the apartment of a chef, visit a Lebanese cafe, and an incredible multi-course farewell dinner.
From Lyon I joined the Return to the Luberon trip in the lovely town of Bonnieux. This was a quieter trip, focusing on the natural beauty of the Luberon vally and the people who make their home there. A woman winery owner, a truffle farmer and his dogs, a couple hosting barbecues on their property. These were the highlights. We also visited markets, small towns and shops. We even visited the lovely apartment of our guides, Charley and Kathy. But I think it was the town of Bonnieux that charmed us the most.

I have traveled through Europe for many years and in many ways… but the 3 trips I have been involved with through European Experiences outshine them all! I love the small group camaraderie that I have experienced in each one. Outstanding leadership and planning. You have the opportunity to be fully immersed in the culture of the region you are visiting. You feel like you are visiting friends, with friends! Truly remarkable adventures! I am trying to decide today which one to enroll in next!

Jen and Mike led us on an incredible tour around Provence, introduced us to the science and basics of perfume, great meals and best to me, an afternoon/ evening with a most charming and insightful lady of British Society now living in France. Her candid comments impressed everyone. Beyond the great tours, the facts, figures and stories, our guides (Jen and Mike) were fun, delightful and entertaining and always there ready to do anything they could for us. We are signing up with them again.

My husband, sister, and I went on the trip to Provence together in spring of 2024. We had a great time and enjoyed traveling with European Experience. They take care of the organization of the sites and experiences of the region. We are impressed how they had arranged for a cooking class held in the home of a Michelon star chef. We were able to visit so many historic sites from WWII and ancient historic sites. Dinners were at local places that were off the beaten path and were an evening of entertainment. There was time to shop and time for relaxation as well. We would recommend this trip to anyone looking for an experience and immersion into the life of the locals.

I was a part of the Normandy experience tour of EUROPEAN EXPERIENCES in 2024, April /May. The tour was conducted by experienced, knowledgeable guides who cared for us and gently educated us whilst showing the utmost care of our accommodation and most meals etc. I am 80 this year and can thoroughly recommend this group for their successful tours. Transport to all sites was easy with our chauffeurs who quickly became life long friends.

I have now had 2 amazing adventures with Jennifer and European Experiences. The first was with the Paris Experience and the second the Moroccan Experience. Both trips were so beautifully planned and provided me with experiences of a lifetime. I left both voyages feeling that I really had been able to experience the culture. I was able to max the free time as Jennifer made sure we were well prepared with information and orientation as to where we were. I look forward to my next adventure with European Experiences. I know that when I travel with them I will have an inspiring journey with exquisite encounters.

I have recently returned from another fabulous holiday with European Experiences. This is my 6th trip travelling with Kathy and Charley and I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them. The itinerary typically includes good food and wine, exploring small beautiful villages, shopping, experiencing local markets, cooking, and meeting locals and sharing time in their homes. A unique opportunity to truly experience a taste of life in the local region. Spending the week with a small group of like-minded travellers is always fun, being able to share new experiences with new friends. The weeks program is always extremely well organised, with opportunities for time to do your own thing as well. I highly recommend European Experiences for a wonderful holiday with very attentive hosts, who aim to ensure that you can relax and enjoy! Thank you for another wonderful holiday!

I just returned from the Mediterranean Provence Women's Week with Jennifer Dugdale as the Leader. It was amazing! Every day was an adventure ...from exploring the magnificent coastline to a cooking class with a Michelin star chef, to a French winery tour and picnic. Activities were well paced. Our hotel in Bandol was lovely. The food all week was excellent. A highlight was also getting to know the other women on the tour. We all got along great and had a lot of laughs. Some new friendships formed. Jennifer did an outstanding job as Leader. I would definitely recommend this tour!

I recently returned from the European Christmas Experience trip with Kathy and Charley. The sights were beyond beautiful. Salzburg at night, Munich from the top of St Peter’s Church tower, Colmar’s Christmas decorations, and small villages with all the European charms of their regions. It was traditional European Christmas markets and so much more. This was an exceptional trip. I went there alone to travel with strangers and returned home with new friends and experiences I will always treasure.

Wonderful tours. Staying in small towns and venturing to the local sites is perfect. Lots of up close encounters with residents of the towns through local guides. Adding to the interesting local landscape are small business owners ,such as a dairy farmer, a long time resident of a town or a chef first found on tv and then asked to cook for us.

The trip was well organised and the small group was great. We were able to do things, like lunch at a cafe or small pub, that wouldn't be possible with a large bus load. There can be no better way to experience Paris than with Jennifer and her cadre of true Parisian day guides. Informative and fun, from an evening tour of the Eiffel Tower via vintage CV2s, to croissant making. We strolled through beautiful gardens, the twisty lanes of the historic Marais, and past the literary haunts of the legendary Lost Generation. We enjoyed dining in intimate small restaurants, a famed gypsy jazz café, and even a home-cooked meal in the lovely apartment of a Parisienne artist. Because the groups are small, I’ve found they are very adaptable to their guests needs and special interests.

My husband and I have traveled quite a few times with award winning European-Experiences and have recently returned from their Puglia Experience, which was wonderful! We have had nothing but fabulous times with this charming, small group tour! Kathy and Charley choose lovely, small villages in which to base their travels and they offer experiences that one could never have on one's own. They become part of the community, allowing us lucky guests to partake of that local knowledge. Not only do they show one sights, but introduce one to the locals in various ways...cooking, shopping the markets, in depth winery tours, history and the like and they do a superlative job, in the process!! We have loved each hotel in which we've stayed and the food and wine have been wonderful. Travel with them...you'll never regret it!!!

I just completed the “Inside Paris” trip with European Experiences and Jennifer Dugdale as our guide. What an amazing experience! After coming to Paris for over 50 years Jennifer still managed to have a surprise for me at every turn. We stayed at a lovely hotel, the Hotel Monge in a walkable part of town. Jennifer had locals involved in all of our experiences—we even had a chance to dine in the private home of a French chef. Truly an “insiders” experience. I won't detail the exact things we did—after all, the “surprises” are part of the fun—but I highly recommend this trip! UPDATE as of June 20: I've now done another trip with European Experiences called "The Luberon Experience", and it was MAGICAL!! Such a lovely week of visiting French villages, going to private wineries, having a picnic in a bucolic setting, walking in secluded spots, and on and on. It is wonderful to travel with a small group of fellow travelers, who become your friends. It was again a repeat visit to the area for me, and I still had new and wonderful experiences. I have now booked several more trips with this company for 2023! UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2023. I have just completed my sixth trip with European Experiences and EACH ONE has been magical! Amazing! This year alone I did three trips---The Riviera Hillsides, the Mediterranean Provence, and the Cornwall and Scilly Isles. All were fabulous. I love making new friends on these trips, as all my fellow travelers are such lovely people. The experiences are wonderfully curated and perfectly executed. On my most recent Cornwall trip the highlight for me was definitely the two days on the Scilly Isles. Even the transportation to and from the Isles was a lot of fun--now I can say I've traveled by 'skybus'! The Islands are gorgeous and unspoiled. The food on this trip deserves a special mention as well. We had lots of delicious fresh seafood, expertly cooked and presented. I always feel as if I've not only enjoyed myself, but also learned something about each area that I've visited and in Cornwall it was a visit to the Geevor Tin Mine that really helped give Cornwall context. Another thing about these trips that I like is that they tend to be in areas that are not inundated with other tourists, American or otherwise. The Mediterranean Provence trip is a perfect example of this. We were centered in a charming fishing village and went to a number of 'not on the radar' places that were all outstanding. Areas of natural beauty, unknown islands, museums---places that I wasn't aware of before the trip and that really made you feel like you were getting an 'insiders' view of coastal Provence. LOVED this trip! If you like small group, slow travel, expertly done, you will love traveling with European Experiences. In my experience, you can't go wrong with ANY of their trips!

Portugal 2025 --- European Experiences offers unparalleled white-glove organization and exemplary attention to detail! We loved our Portugal trip for so many reasons. Jennifer and JP make a memorable adventure warmly engaging and effortless!
From our lovely hotel in the heart of old Porto, recommended by Jennifer, we were off to a great start. We and our travel companions walked to a food and wine tour of the amazing city food halls in Porto, then were whisked off to the idyllic Medieval town of Guimarães. So relaxing -- and a beautiful start to our wonderful adventure.
Mary Ann and I have favorites on the Portugal Experience: cruising on an historic 60' British yacht through the Douro Valley vineyards as the fog lifted, our luxurious Hotel de Oliveira on an ancient town square in Guimarães with possibly the most gracious staff ever, truly amiable travel companions, and so much more. We enjoyed and learned from enthusiastic native guides through the week, all proud of Portuguese history and Portugal's contributions to the world.
Meals were awesome, including sumptuous lunches at the homes and gardens of our hotel owner and another generous artisan. And a festive masterpiece dinner on the patio of our glorious hotel accompanied by soulful fado music. These are experiences we could never have arranged on our own!
Northern Portugal is renowned for wines from vinho verdes to ports. But who could have expected -- in cellars/caves lined with massive casks -- the elegant linen-draped tables with crystal glasses, cheeses and breads? Charming, knowledgeable hosts led us through tastings of their vineyards' products. Exquisite!
The textile industry is a major economic driver of the region and our tour of the Lameirinho textile factory was impressive for its scale, quality and automation. Buyers throughout the world feature their bedding, linens, towels and other products.
We liked our day trips to Braga, the large town of cathedrals (one with 581 steps sacred to those on the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela), and to Ponte de Lima where we walked a 2000+ year-old Roman bridge, another Camino stop.
As much as we enjoyed our day trips to these areas, we loved returning to our base in Guimarães. It's a UNESCO world heritage town and we adored it for its ancient cobbled streets, small squares where restaurant tables spill out to the plaza, fairy-lighted windows at night, and reverence of the past.
After decades of planning our own travels, this was our third European Experiences trip. We're booked for another in 2026 and hope to make many more. We congratulate and appreciate the expertise of European Experiences and our hosts in making our travel a joy!!!

We recently completed our second tour with European Experiences, this time to Normandy. It was excellent in every way. Kathy does such a great job at finding interesting and unusual experiences for the group; like a visit to a family-owned dairy farm that produces milk for the region's outstanding local cheeses, or a picnic lunch and tour of a family-owned apple grower and producer of the local ciders and Calvados. These are experiences that wouldn't be possible for larger group tours and are very difficult to find and arrange for solo travelers. We also had fabulous local guides for the D-day beaches and tours of local towns and cities. As we have come to expect with European Experiences, the meals included with the tour were outstanding, showcasing wonderful local restaurants we would have been unlikely to find on our own. Kathy's model of staying in a local small town and taking day trips around the region is so much better than tours that require you to pack and unpack constantly as you move from one hotel to another. We recommend European Experiences enthusiastically, and have already booked our next tour to Cornwall.

The "Riviera Hillsides Experience" is a perfect addition to the variety of special tours offered by European Experiences. The "experiences" were unique and exceeded my expectations. From private garden tours, special lunches and dinners at local and Michelin restaurants, this tour was perfectly paced. The central location of our hotel allowed for day trips to the marvels of this Mediterranean area known as the Cote d'Azur. And, as expected, the tour leaders had deep and established relationships with local artisans, art historians, restaurateurs and innkeepers. Fabulous week in Puglia, Italy with European Experiences. Small group travel and slow travel make it the perfect combination for experiencing Italy's back roads. Experiences like cheese making, wine tasting and pasta making are at the heart of this unique travel tour. Only my 7th trip with European Experiences, I highly recommend their special travel tours.

This was one of the most beautiful and entertaining trips I have ever been on! The small group setting was ideal and access to the two leaders was easy. We had many memorable adventures in the countryside. I will never forget them! And the wine, oh the wine was excellent and the deserts, out of this world! Thanks for everything.

We could not have put together a better way to see the Hillsides of the French Riviera. The trip was led by the charming Jennifer and Michael . We will be seeking out another trip with European Experiences, led by Jennifer and Mike.

I made my first trip with Kathy and Charley in 2010. I was to visit my daughters in London and had a week with neither home, so was looking for something to fill the time. By chance saw a tiny advertisement and after reading the website decided a week in Provence would be very nice. WOW!! The decision has changed my life in so many ways ... I have made many good friends, some more than good, the best. I have now had six trips, a private few days in Bonnieux at Kathy and Charley's apartment and am planning as I write my next trip in November, two weeks of Christmas Market joy and entertainment in Salzburg, Munich and Colmar. Kathy is very good at arranging the schedule so that every day is better than the last in some way and I have been to places of interest I could never have found on my own . If the idea of arriving , meeting up with your "hosts" and not needing to think of another detail beyond which scarf to wear today , whilst in the company of interesting and like-minded folks appeals, then do yourself a favour and become a EUROPEAN EXPERIENCES family member. I count myself among the truly fortunate to be one . The experiences I have had include paddling a canoe for the first time in my life ( at nearly 70 ) .... in the Dordogne . Breathtaking scenery, and eternal gratitude to David who bravely shared the ride. If you are travelling alone, this is an excellent way to do so. Having begun so late in my life, I fear I will not see all I would like to in France ( and Italy, and the U.K.) but I have several more trips to come I hope.

I have been fortunate to travel on three trips with Charley and Kathy--the Luberon, Return to the Luberon and Alsace. And I am looking forward to joining them in Tuscany in June. They have scouted out fun and diverse things to do in all of the areas and pass along interesting information about the areas and their history and traditions. Between picnics, touring vineyards with wine tastings, visits to historic sites, shopping at village markets, truffle hunts and amazing restaurants, I would have a difficult time picking my favorite activity or even my favorite trip. The food is always fabulous, and the people in every group I have traveled with have been interesting, fun and compatible. I am not one for tours, but with Kathy and Charley you feel like you are traveling with family and friends.

A friend and I travelled with Kathy and Charley earlier in September spending one week exploring the Luberon. The Luberon Experience was wonderful and even better than we hoped it would be. Prior to the trip Kathy was in regular contact providing information to help us prepare well and pack appropriately. Staying at Le Clos de Buis in Bonnieux for the week was delightful. The accommodation was beautiful, the buffet breakfast excellent and the location absolutely perfect for exploring the Luberon. Each day was a new adventure. Kathy and Charley have developed a very personalised week, choosing off the beaten track locations and activities so we felt we got to know and understand a little this beautiful region. The pace for the week was thoughtfully done with a mix of travel, local exploration and free time. Each day also brought a highlight, something special - for me they were the walk from Bonnieux to La Coste in misty rain, the stunning red ochre village of Rousillon, the fabulous meals of local specialities and the amazing art installation of Carrieres de Lumieres at Moulin Castellas. So many wonderful visits. Our small group of 13 plus Kathy and Charley gelled from the beginning. We had great fun together. We loved that there was often a choice of activity so that those who couldn't walk far still got to see the wonderful scenery. Kathy shared her intimate knowledge of local customs and history in a relaxed manner, never through lectures. We felt the week was simply fabulous and would love to travel again with Kathy and Charley. The Luberon Experience is great value and a great way to visit this beautiful part of Provence.

Two words I would use to describe our two trips with European Experiences and Kathy Wood would be: Personal and Immersive. The size of the group (13) lends itself to getting to know the people you are with, including Kathy and her co-leaders. I love the slow travel approach because by staying in one place and venturing out daily I felt I came to know Provence (this year) and the Cotswolds (two years ago). The experience was vivid, like looking at something from many angles. I also liked that we didn’t have to keep moving or living out of a suitcase. We settled in and got to know the community we were in.

Paris Experience was as wonderful as my first European Experience last summer. A varied itinerary of places and activities, many of which would be difficult as an independent traveller. A lunch and a dinner in private homes were highlights. Every local guide was both knowledgeable and personable; we felt like guests more than customers. Our hotel was convenient for Metro and walking and there were several opportunities for free time. When we shared our favourite thing from the week, almost everyone had a different choice—evidence of something for everyone in the schedule. Jennifer was knowledgeable, charming and super-organized in a non-intrusive way. When I tell friends about my week, they often ask for information about European Experience

Recently returned from our 1st European Experiences trip! Very much enjoyed our Cotswolds week with our small group of travelers. Our leader Kathy Wood (in yellow in center of group photo) was amazing, having led 25+ tours to the area before our turn! Our 'family run inn' staff were outstanding, feeding us yummy fare each day before and after touring about! The overall pace was perfect and well organized !! We are so pleased...we registered for the Puglia Italy European Experience October 2027😃

We just returned from the Inside Lyon trip. It was our 7th experience with European Experience and our first time in Lyon and traveling with Drew. Our only regret is that is was a trip designed to add on to the weeklong Luberon Experience. It is very nice as we were not sure about exploring for 2 full weeks but Lyon is so amazing that we would love to go back for a full week experience. Inside the city itself it feels very much like Paris but smaller and more approachable. We visited the beautiful Basilique of Notre Dame and smaller cathedrals and the Paul Bocuse food hall with a personal tour with lovely Claire whose English and enthusiasm were wonderful. We received an education on wines, cheeses, local sausages, and then we ate all of it. The displays of local foods and produce was a feast alone. The tour with Emiline of architecture and secret passageways was terrific. The silk industry tour and the neighborhood that grew up around it was both informative and a reality check of the hard conditions that helped lead to the revolution. I can't say enough about Drew who guided us inside the city and into the countryside of rustic stone villages and wineries. The restaurants and experiences he chose for us were well researched and fun. In restaurants he explained the dishes and encouraged us to sample traditional Lyonaisse cooking. It was all great. The hi-light meals were the Institute and dinner with a private chef in an apartment owned by his family that was the home of Napoleon Bonaparte's mistress. Food was again terrific and the apartment had impossibly high interiors and gold gilded woodwork everywhere. I would say its a trip of a lifetime but that I hope to do a version of it again for a longer visit. I recommend this trip because of all the research and detail that went into its planning and Drew is delightfully informative and very enthusiastic. The travelers that tend to do these trips add to the experience greatly. Barb & Bruce Ornstein

We recently returned from the Riviera Hillsides Experience, our fourth trip with European Experiences but first with Jennifer Dugdale. The addition of Jennifer to the team has only enhanced the quality of EE’s offerings. As always, each day was carefully curated to introduce us to unique aspects of the region, providing access to people, places, and opportunities that we couldn’t possibly match on our own. When such highly competent guides are combined with a group of like-minded travelers, the result is a memorable trip that is equal parts instructive and fun!

Thanks to European Experiences for creating a schedule that allowed to easily transition from the Inside Paris tour to The Luberon Experience. Both tours were excellent. Inside Paris is very much a neighborhood focused experience, including our hotel located in the Latin Quarter. It was exactly what we were looking for. Our 4 days(and nights) included visits to a number of local areas where the addition of local guides proved to be a great enhancement. One of our days took us to a suburban villa and garden where a local garden expert led our group, followed by lunch at her home. It's Paris, so needless to say, the dining experiences were varied and well done. . . including an evening meal at the home of a local chef. Following Inside Paris, an included train trip from Paris to Avignon brought us to the start of The Luberon Experience. Our base was a lovely small hotel in the equally lovely village of Bonnieux(great for walking). It was a wonderful week filled with local experiences in a number of villages . . . each different and welcoming. Luberon is known for Lavender, Olives and Olive Oil as well as Wine. Our week included visits to a Lavender farm, Olive Oil producer and Vineyard/Winery. Each village seemed to have their own weekly markets . . . some small and some much larger. The variety of offerings was remarkable. Our best baguette in all of our time in France was from one of these local markets. The inclusion of a visit to multimedia Quarry of Lights was another highlight. Both of our tours were led by outstanding hosts. They made our temporary life in France a busy yet relaxing time.

I just returned from the Riviera Hillsides, my first trip with European Experiences. What a feast for the senses! Our week was packed with: breathtaking views from Medieval villages perched on cliffs; special tours of private gardens; the art of Picasso and Matisse; a hike around an ancient isle in the azure Mediterranean; French glass blowing; local markets; a private tour of the demonstration gardens for florals and plants used in the perfume industry; and a scent making class with expert perfumer Jessica, one of the few females in this male-dominated industry! Then there’s the cuisine, and the wines, and the fresh vegetables, stinky cheeses, and citron sauces of this special region! OMG! What else can I say? Except, Jennifer and J.P. are such excellent hosts and trip leaders! As residents of the region, their knowledge of the culture, language, and customs of Provence tremendously enhanced every aspect of our program. I also loved meeting our small group of fun people (some repeat travelers with EE), touring with open minds and seeking new knowledge! Finally, I must say this trip was an outstanding value and I would love to travel with EE again. Thanks Jennifer, Cathy, and J.P.!

My mother & I went on the European Experiences Christmas 2024 trip & it was just wonderful!! We both enjoyed traveling together with our small group of about a dozen very interesting people. There were 2 other sets of mothers/daughters on our trip & I can’t recommend it highly enough as a memorable shared experience. Our guides Kathy & Charley (owners of the company) were great – very knowledgeable, helpful, and arranged all kinds of interesting activities that we would not have experienced if traveling on our own. While we visited many gorgeous Christmas markets in each city -- all complete with festive holiday lights, decorations, local artisan and food/drink booths – they had so much more in store for us!! Private walking tours of each city with local guides, tour of an underground salt mine (flying down the wooden slide into the mine with my mother was priceless!), private concert, private tour of Dachau Concentration Camp, private cooking class & dinner, brewery/beer garden visit, private wine tasting at a winery, etc, etc, etc. We did not have to worry about anything during the trip! All the hotels that we stayed in were in fantastic central locations and very comfortable with friendly staff & wonderful breakfasts. All of the meals that were included with the trip were very good and at great, unique restaurants – everything was included and we always left full & happy! All transportation arrangements were made for us ahead of time & we traveled comfortably in style throughout. My mom and I are already talking about what trip we want to go on next! By the way, my husband & I also took a great trip with Kathy & Charley to the Luberon 15+ years ago -- it was fun re-connecting with them after all that time & good to know that they still remain passionate about crafting such wonderfully memorable travel experiences. I cannot recommend European Experiences highly enough… If you’ve read all the way through this rambling review, just go book a trip with them now!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Cornwall with European Experiences. they were recommended by friends, and this was our first trip with them. The communication provided before the trip was timely, personalized to our situation and the advice provided was right on target. The entire trip ran very smoothly from meeting up at the penzance train station to daily transportation. The sightseeing itinerary was ambitious, but not overwhelmingly packed. The hotels and restaurant experiences chosen were superb. The hospitality and regional uniqueness of each one were outstanding. We had so many outstanding experiences, such as listening to the Mousehole men’s choir in a medieval church, and a visit to the Isles of Scilly. What really impressed us was the overall organization and planning of the trip along with the flexibility to respond to opportunities that presented themselves in the moment. The Cornwall trip is notable for its dramatic sea and moor landscapes And ancient history. We likely would never have experienced it in depth were it not for Kathy and her team. We will be booking more trips in the years to come!

Had a wonderful week in Paris! Terrific 4-star hotel in the Latin Quarter; great guides; and interesting places. This is not a tour to see the typical Paris tourist spots (Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Bateaux Mouches, Etc) We visited neighborhoods with gardens; a "tasteful" morning at the Aligre food market with a food critic; and a guided trip to the giant St Ouen flea market. See the real Paris, not the tourist crowds.

Whether you are planning your first trip to Europe or your twentieth, Kathy and Charley have a new, fresh, exciting itinerary for you. We absolutely fell in love with the little hill town Bonnieux in the Luberon Valley. Each day was filled with interesting day trips that showed us France like a local. That experience is only possible when done in small groups- a European Experiences trademark. From a lovely farmhouse lunch al fresco at a tiny vinyard, to hikes between hill towns in the cool morning, to a never-forget immersive experience inside a quarry turned art exhibit with classical music playing and all your senses firing at once, I have never done Europe the same before or since. Before you sign on for another 'this is Tuesday so it must be Paris' tour, I urge you to check them out!

Our third trip with European Experiences was in the Luberon region of France in September, 2019. It was another wonderful week visiting interesting towns and places that Kathy and Charley had found, researched and made arrangements to visit at a very comfortable pace. The dinners and other excellent meals or events we had together with the other members gave us an opportunity to make new friends and enjoy the warmth of everyone's company. Interestingly, on all of the trips we found the people with us each week shared much in common with us. One aspect we liked also was that all we only had to "show up". Everything had been arranged and the execution was seamless. We never thought of these trips as "tours", but rather "experiences" created by knowledgeable and caring folks that left us with fond memories, new friends and looking forward to the next adventure with them.

We just returned from European Experiences Chianti Experience in Tuscany. This was my 5th trip with EE and my husband’s third. This trip through the Tuscany region fully exceeded our expectations. Our hotel was lovely, clean, with excellent food, and in the authentic architecture of the region. As always, we enjoyed the company of our fellow travelers. Kathy had an agenda for every day which varied from one day to the next. Each day took us to a unique and out-of-the way historical village, then often lunch would occur at a long-time acquaintance of Kathy’s who would teach us about how olive oil is made, the growth and production of wine, and other experiences indigenous to the region. Each place would serve us a lunch consisting of about 6 courses (made on site with farm to table ingredients), with local wines. Kathy provides a totally immersive experience. She is well organized, has everything seamlessnessly planned, and ensures it appears effortless. Everything was so smooth, easy, relaxing, delicious, and enriching. Simply outstanding! Kathy is a true professional in every aspect.

Our European Experience with this immersive travel company was well organized, very informative, and a lot of fun. My husband and I took the 10-day Cornwall Experience, based in Penzance and on the gorgeous subtropical island of St. Martin’s off the coast. We enjoyed comfortable accommodations, along with excellent tours of breathtaking land- and seascapes, ancient sites, gorgeous gardens, charming towns and museums and local cultural icons among the well-planned excursions with knowledgeable and friendly local guides. Included gourmet meals were thoughtfully planned in local restaurants and pubs. The itinerary was flexible enough to be enjoyed by travelers of different abilities. Best of all were our delightful, intellectually curious, kind and hilarious travel companions, a crosscut of folks from South Africa, Australia, and the United States: couples and solo women travelers alike. Our hosts and guides Kathy Coleman Wood, Charley Wood, and Drew Fedorka were extremely knowledgeable, attentive and accommodating, while being lots of fun to converse with. We have been mostly independent travelers, but having someone take care of all the details and deliver an outstanding experience was a revelation. If you are thinking about booking a trip with European Experiences, go for it. You will have a great time.

My wife and I just returned from a European Experiences (EE) to Cornwall England. This was our 6th trip with EE and we loved it. In our six trips we have been to Luberon twice, Austria, the Cotswolds, Perigord France and now Cornwall. We have really enjoyed all these small group tours. We have also been on four Country Walkers tours which we have also enjoyed but rate EE better. Kathy and Charlie who personally have led all trips use local people to provide historic prospectives. Food and lodging are superb, we generally stay at one place taking day trips. The all inclusive price, not counting airfare, is cheaper than comparable Country Walkers trip with no tipping required for guides, drivers, etc. My wife and I highly recommend European Experiences.

I have just returned from a wonderful visit to Paris. Jennifer Dugdale who led our small group, is an experienced and engaging tour guide with European Experiences. This is my third trip with this tour group and I highly recommend it. Staying in one hotel for the entire tour means more time spent seeing interesting and unusual sites. Each day there was a theme including the history of Paris, gastronomy, a focused tour of the left bank, and gardens. A wonderful woman who actually had been living in the Chateau of Fontainebleau for over 30 years, took us into rooms not normally shown to the public. She was a wealth of knowledge and very engaging. Other highly trained, interesting and enthusiastic locals, took us into hidden gardens and beautiful markets not typically visited. We even were treated to fabulous two meals at the home of locals. We saw and experienced many things that a typical tour would not. Our hotel was amazing with a fabulous breakfast included. Our room and bathrooms were modern, lovely and quiet. The concierges there could not have been more accommodating. Jennifer took amazing care of us and met all of our needs graciously and enthusiastically. The week felt like being shown around by two friends and not an organized tour. They both went out of their way to ensure we experienced French culture and visited beautiful places, often away from the busy tourist areas. Every day we had plenty of laughs, wonderful experiences and great food and wine! From the first morning walk through salt marshes, seeing Mont Saint Michel so close with no tourists in view and only French sheep between us and this iconic landmark, we were transported to a new way of traveling! We've vacationed in Europe many times over decades, but our European Experiences Normandy trip was the first tour we had ever taken. Not knowing what to expect, we were impressed with the exceptional planning, knowledgeable guides, delicious meals featuring regional specialties, and the beautiful hotel our hosts had arranged. Going to a private dairy farm to see robots milking cows (!) and later sampling the cheeses famous in the region was special. Visiting an apple orchard, then enjoying a picnic under the trees and tasting the ciders and Calvados was such fun. Walking the Normandy beaches and cemeteries and learning in depth the incredible strategy and bravery that occurred there was profoundly moving. The deep view into the history of Normandy, the scenery, the visits to small towns, the peek into local culture, the gracious and interesting travel mates, and our hosts' personal attention to detail made this trip an absolute joy. We're now totally thrilled at the prospect of more tours with European Experiences!

My sister and I were very lucky to spend a week in The Cotswolds with Kathy and Charley in July 2016. In a word...BRILLIANT! We loved The Lygon Arms where we stayed for the week. (unpacking once is such a treat)! The most delicious food, especially the included breakfasts. The small village of Chipping Campden is beyond charming...just as you'd imagine from ready fairy tale books. The week was amazing. Kathy and Charley are very knowledgable about the Cotwolds and have many interesting and funny stories! TheEnglish Gardens and Palaces we visited were in full bloom and absolutely stunning! We visited many small villages, local farms, local producers of cheese, meats, and ales. Spending a week in The Cotswolds with my sister on our "Adventure Before Dementia Sister Trip" is a week she and I will remember and laugh about always. I know in my heart that one day I will return to this charming part of England with Kathy and Charley to lead the way. Cheers! (with a Pimms cocktail of course).

Combine the best food you've ever eaten with quaint villages, castles, pre-1500's & WW historic sites, chateaus, wine tasting with the vintner, and getting to know new interesting friends and you have a week with European Experiences, part of Slow Travel Tours. But don't think it is "slow," it is very active-walking everywhere! (You'll easily get your 10,000 steps in ;) Kathy and Charlie are the quintessential hosts. I went with my MIL to the Luberon, then with my husband to Return to the Luberon (RL) and Alsace with Australian friends we met at RL. The Paris Experience with our wonderful tour guide, Jennifer was an outstanding week of unique, historic, beautiful and exciting adventures. Each day was filled with great opportunities to visit with and learn from local guides and engage in meaningful activities. The small group of eight was perfect and the boutique hotel was charming with the Latin Quarter being a terrific location. The food and wine were excellent and plentiful in a variety of different cafes. We were always warmly welcomed. As well as, very fortunate to have great autumn weather and with such warm temperatures even the roses were still blooming in the lovely gardens we visited. A big heartfelt thanks to Jennifer for coordinating such a fabulous tour! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review: European Experiences – Porto & Northern Portugal
Our trip to Northern Portugal with European Experiences was truly exceptional! Tour leaders Jennifer and JP created an experience that was both beautifully organized and deeply personal. Their knowledge, warmth, and attention to detail made every day special.
We fell in love with Porto—its riverside beauty, historic bridges, and welcoming spirit—and the surrounding northern towns that felt untouched by time. The charming town of Guimarães was home base and one of our favorites, filled with history, narrow cobblestone streets, and incredible character.
One of the most memorable moments was our stay at a stunning family-run hotel, where Ernesto, the gracious owner, welcomed us as if we were lifelong friends. He even invited the group to his home for a barbecue, complete with staff dressed in red, white, and blue, creating an evening full of laughter, delicious food, and genuine hospitality.
The port wineries opened their doors just for us, offering private tastings that felt like a privilege. Our local guides were outstanding—kind, knowledgeable, and clearly proud to share their beautiful country and culture with us.
Every day brought something new and unforgettable. European Experiences truly lives up to its name—it’s not just a trip, it’s an immersion in local life, connection, and culture.
We returned home with full hearts, new friendships, and a deep appreciation for Portugal.

The accommodations beautiful and the staff everywhere were friendly and helpful. We appreciated having the opportunity to explore the cuisine, even in a home where we helped prepare a delicious meal. We felt warmly welcomed everywhere we went. The tour was great fun (riding camels) but also highly educational. We highly recommend this tour!

Kathy and Charley are not just tour guides, they become friends. Luberon was our second trip with them and European Experiences, with Dordogne being the first. They both were wonderful! So much to learn: history, wine, food, festivals, markets, beautiful scenery, the French language, FRANCE! The real charm of the trips are the people too. We become friends. We get to be immersed in the area we visit. I felt like I was part of Bonnieux, partly because my husband and I wondered off to visit a favorite cafe of Charley's, found one of our own, and had time for a couple village walks on our own. We woke up each morning to the beginning sounds of the village waking up. I can hardly wait to visit Alsace with them next June.

I have traveled all over the world. Some for business, some walking/hiking tours, some self-guided tours. This was THE BEST. I felt part of the local community and not just someone passing through. People, trip guide (Kathy Wood), food, markets, etc. were all outstanding. I have already signed up for two more European Experience trips so that is my best testimonial.

I had the good fortune to participate in the Luberon Experience group from 9/28/24 to 10/05/24 with my best friend from childhood during a Women’s Week. This is a stunning area of Provence. Our days were filled with visits to charming villages, delicious food (including a meal at the home of a local artist), & beautiful scenery. Our home for the week was a hotel in the lovely village of Bonnieux. The rooms were lovely & the views/grounds were spectacular. Breakfast was wonderful everyday. Our group leaders, Kathy & Christian, were great hosts who planned every last detail with great care. There were 11 other women in this group representing Canada, USA, & Australia, some traveling alone & others with a friend. The camaraderie of this group of strangers was a real treat! We all felt like friends rather quickly. I highly recommend this tour!

The Alsatian Experience blended fascinating history, rich French culture, beautiful villages an countryside, and wonderful accommodations to provide a truly memorable vacation for me and my husband. As I look through my countless photos, it's difficult to name a favorite: from the delightful dinner and evening with the Butterlin family, to the historical Battle of Linge trenches and museum, to the fascinating Ecomusee d'Alsace, there was such an interesting assortment of experiences to enjoy. Kathy Wood and Drew Fedorka are both very knowledgeable, thoughtful, and amiable professionals. I am looking forward to another European Experience with them.

Kathy and her daughter Kelly provided a very well organized Périgord Noir tour that compressed a long human history starting with our ancestors living in indentations in a rock face, amazing cave paintings, being shown how to create fire just with rocks, tree fungus and straw, a boat or kayak trip past numerous castles, some clinging to the top of rock cliffs, others with ornate gardens, variable restaurants with excellent meals, comfortable accommodations, with a great group of fellow travellers. A solid 5 stars experience.

My sister and I just returned from the Luberon Experience with Kathy and Charley. I did most of the research, and chose them because of the reviews, the approach and pace of the tours and honestly from the photos of the travelers and hosts. They did not disappoint. Our first evening Kathy said is our hope is to make you feel like your gathered 12 of your friends and came to visit us in Bonneiux. And we did. I am sure they work very hard to make it feel this casual, comfortable and intimate, but it doesn't show. They are both gracious and fun. This is the experience of lifetime. Thank you, and I hope to travel with you again.

In June 2024 I participated as a single for the first time with European Experiences 1 week tour of the Cotswolds countryside in England with leader Kathy Wood. I initially discovered the Cotswolds tour through a google search. I would recommend European Experiences and would go on another tour with them! It was nice having a small group of 12 friendly people. We traveled around easily by short bus or 2 vans or by walking. Most meals were included and all were very good! Many were at historic or well loved local restaurants. We visited many delightful gardens, castles, ruins, small towns and churches! We made new friends! We had time to explore most tour stops at our own pace after a brief group introduction. There was plenty to do, but there was also some free time most days late afternoon to use as you chose. Kathy was very personable, knowledgable and organized! You could easily choose to skip an activity if it did not interest you. The itinerary was great and offered a nice mix of experiences at a reasonable pace! The accommodations were good being based at one local hotel for the week. Many on the tour had done other tours with Kathy in the past. I really enjoyed the experience!

My husband and I have traveled twice with European Experiences, on the Luberon Experience and to Normandy. The one of a kind experiences are exceptional, and the value is excellent for a European vacation which includes food, drink, lodging, guides, and personal service. As much as possible the leader will make every effort to accommodate all travelers in the small group. Expect to see and participate in one of a kind experiences that just aren't possible when traveling alone. If you're considering a trip to Europe, don't book until you look at the many opportunities that are offered by European Experiences. You will be so glad you did!

Our week in the Luberon exceeded expectations! Our hotel in Bonnieux was delightful with spectacular views and a welcoming breakfast each day. Our fellow travelers were a congenial group, always friendly and flexible. The week was wonderfully planned with a variety of activities reflecting the warmth of Kathy's personal contacts and insider knowledge of the region. The meals were all memorable, but the Sunday picnic in the hotel garden set just the right note to begin our taste of food and wine and laughter that awaited. Christian is a great addition to Kathy's team. His patience, sense of humor and familiarty with the area, plus fearless driving skills, added to our enjoyment of the trip.

I traveled with European Experiences to see the beautiful Luberon Mountains of southern France. They did not disappoint! Wherever we drove, there were stunning views of vineyards, olive groves, lavender farms and homes in the valleys below. And most interesting were the ancient and medieval villages climbing the hillsides. Each had its own distinct character —Saignon with its bountiful foliage and flowers cascading over walls everywhere, Roussillon with its dramatic cliffs and ochre color, L’Isle Sur Sorgue with its Venice-like canals, or prosperous little Goult with its carefully manicured homes and gardens and complete lack of tourists. And last but not least, the beautiful town of Bonnieux where we stayed, which had enough art galleries, pottery shops, restaurants, and sites to keep us all busy in our off hours. European Experiences is a well organized tour company. The meals and activities were excellent and offered plenty of opportunity for immersion into French culture. The 13 women on my tour melded together well and had lots of laughs. I would highly recommend European Experience Tours to others.

I've just returned from two amazing and memorable "experiences": Inside Paris and The Luberon. I've never been to France and I knew experiencing Paris with Jennifer and the Luberon with Kathy would be the way to go. I LOVED Paris! Jennifer is a delight! she's passionate about Paris and we were able to "peek" into places that I don't think a "big-box" tour would ever go. The people she knows are super interesting and experts in their fields. The food, wine, and camaraderie exceeded expectations both in Paris and The Luberon. Every day was a new adventure and I appreciated that we have some "down" time (time to shop, LOL). I've made new friends that I hope to travel with again. Before France, I've been on 3 of Kathy's Cotswolds trips and highly recommend that "experience" as well. It's impossible to pick photos to summarize my fabulous time in Paris and The Luberon. You can't go wrong with any of European-Experiences experiences! Do it!

The Cornwall trip was amazing! Adventures on every day! Beautiful rooms and views and fantastic meals - truly amazing for an individual who is gluten intolerant to have wonderful GF breads at every meal! I'm spoiled! Walking across causeways and boating back when the causeway was covered with water, multiple boat trips, the Isles of Scilly - amazing scenery and wildlife, fantastic resort hotel, tin mining underground tour, Mt. St. Micheal, walking options with fantastic scenery along the coast. I really loved the raw beauty of this place. However, my biggest surprise was the food - truly amazing everyday and every meal.

My wife, her sister and husband and I took the Luberon trip with Kathy and Charlie in 2017. This was one of the best trips, with the most varied, well planned activities, beautiful scenery and friendliest group of new-found friends we have ever been on!
Regardless of chilly and at times unpredictable weather, Kathy and Charlie had not only plan B excursions, they had Marvelous plan B alternatives! This area of France is spectacular, made even better when seen through the eyes of those who know it like locals.
So many memories, from Roman ruins to a quarry turned amazing light show, and we ended up having a farmhouse lunch at a nearby winery that made us feel like royalty!
Do not deny yourself the experience of this trip. You can thank me later.

I recently returned from my 5th trip with Kathy and Charley and it was outstanding as usual. As a Christmas gift to each other, my daughter and I went on the Cornwall trip (second time for me). There was a new adventure every day. Our hotel was in an ideal spot with small villages to either side and the sea right out in front. The trip was as always carefully orchestrated yet with plenty of time to explore on our own. The Mousehole Men's Choir, St. Ives, the Isles of Scilly, ancient history sites - there's so much to see and enjoy in Cornwall. We're thinking maybe Italy or Morocco for our next mutual Christmas gifts - we've started a new tradition!

Where do I begin! We just got back from Alsace and it was absolutely fabulous. This is our second tour with Kathy and Charley. They are incredible and well organized hosts and lovely people. Our first tour was the Luberon trip based in Bonnieux. We loved it so much that we rented Kathy & Charley's special apartment in Bonnieux for 2 weeks a year later. What a great time we had driving to a new town everyday. We would never have considered this prior to our trip with them but they take you to so many beautiful villages and treat you so well it was a must to return! What we especially love is that they plan for every type of traveler. We happen to be more active than most and Kathy led great walks for people that wanted to do a little more. That was a big selling point for us but certainly not a problem if you want to do less. We are planning a third trip to the Christmas Markets in December and cannot wait to join them again. As someone else said, try it once and it's guaranteed you'll be back!

We love traveling with European-Experiences. They provide small group tours which suit me and my husband well. They take care of all the details such as choosing the hotels, doing the driving, taking care of all meals including tips, and providing wonderful excursions. They have local connections which gives you opportunities that would never be available with larger companies. We have been on the Cotswold trip, and more recently the Alsace trip. Even though there was a major heatwave, Kathy and Charley took that into consideration, and made the trip so enjoyable. The group is small enough be very flexible. We saw beautiful small villages, had wine tastings with interesting hosts, made lasting friendships, and were even invited into a hospitable couple's home for dinner and entertainment which we all loved! i can't say enough about the welcoming, personal attention that Charley and Kathy provide. Thank you for the wonderful memories!

We toured with European Experiences to Morocco in March 2024. This was my first group tour and I was so happy with the experience. Jennifer chose the most amazing activities to get us to understand and appreciate the culture and people of Morocco. It is an amazingly welcoming country. The people are extremely kind and generous. We ate in families' homes and were encouraged to learn and use Arabic, French and Berber words to connect with our hosts. I have already started planning my next adventure to Morocco. Our first trip with Kathy and Charley was 2008 when we joined them in the Luberon. We loved the trip so much we have since travelled to the Cotswolds, the Dordgone, Beyond the Luberon and we are again joining them for the Christmas tour in December. The best thing in my opinion is that this is slow travel where you get to unpack your suitcase and feel like you are learning about the culture. It's the best way to see the area. The small size of the groups (10 to 12) lends to making new friends, some of whom I still keep in touch with. Both Kathy and Charley are the ultimate hosts and are so knowledgeable about the areas they are in and go out of their way to ensure everyone has the most unforgettable vacation ever. I would highly recommend European Experiences to anyone. Try it once, I guarantee you will be back again.

When we searched for the right trip to the Perigord, we wanted an immersive experience in prehistory, exquisite cuisine, public markets, and local culture.

An excellent way to travel with friendly, informed, leaders. This isn't a big tour bus; it's a truly small group of people. You won't move to a new hotel every day or two - staying in a location for several days is a more relaxing way to travel. There is free time built into the schedule, and always an option to skip something organized. As the one who is "the cruise director" at home, I can be exhausted and nervous at the start of a self-planned itinerary. This eliminates all that worry and allows me AND my spouse to enjoy the trip. Kathy and Charley pick great hotels, know local people, and genuinely care about their travelers. We have taken two of their trips (The Luberon and The Christmas Markets) and recommend European Experiences without any hesitation!

A friend and I have just finished our second trip with Kathy and Charley, this time in Cornwall. It was wonderful. Although the weather wasn’t as warm and sunny as usual it rarely impacted our days’ activities. Staying seven nights in a lovely old seafront hotel in Mousehole was delightful. Our room looked over the sea with a view of St Michael’s Mount to our left. The two days on the Isles of Scilly were equally superb, especially the private small boat tour around the islands to look at the wildlife and the beautiful Tresco Abbey Garden. The local guides Kathy had found to help us explore the village and surrounding areas (including a local tin mine left as it was the last day of mining) were both knowledgeable and extremely interesting. Our group of Americans, Australians and one Canadian enjoyed each other’s company. Most had travelled with Kathy and Charley before so we were a like minded group who had a lot of fun together. The food was magnificent. Cornwall is a renowned “foodie” part of England and restaurants use delicious fresh local ingredients. We love the slower pace of European Experiences trips. There’s always plenty of time allowed to walk through gardens or explore historic sites and we also had time to spend individually exploring our local areas. We love the extra local excursions like watching a rehearsal of the Mousehole Male Voice Choir. Few of us will forget their magnificent singing. Kathy is a superb leader and smoothly managed our diverse needs. Hopefully this won’t be our last trip with her.

We recently returned from the Lyon 4 day European Experiences trip. This was Drew's first trip as a solo leader and it was definitely a hit! Drew did a fantastic job in organizing and putting this trip together. He has a passion for France and especially Lyon, where he lived while studying for his PhD in French History. We all agreed that it could be extended to a seven day trip.
Lyon is easy to get to and would appeal to both city lovers and those that enjoy smaller towns. We stayed on the "peninsula", a perfect location with rivers on both sides. Much of the area is pedestrian only. It's very easy to walk around with lots of restaurants, shopping and of course beautiful historic architecture everywhere. It reminded us of a mini Paris without the crowds.
We experienced many hidden gems within the city and a day out in the country visiting two amazing medieval villages, and a small family owned Beaujolais winery. One evening we had dinner in a chef's home....a stunning art filled Paris style apartment. Another night we ate at the Institute, where chefs are trained to work in the finest French restaurants. The service and food were both amazing. Yet another night we ate in a very locals style Brassiere that we all enjoyed very much.
As with all of these trips, each day was different, interesting and unique, which can only be done with these very small groups. This trip was designed to add onto other 7 day trips they offer, which is what we did. But if you are traveling around France on your own, as so many people do, this would also work for you and give you an introduction to the great type of trips that this company offers. I highly recommend them....I have already been on a dozen of their trips and am booked for more.

3 of us spent a week with Kathy and Charlie in the Luberon in May. I've traveled with Smithsonian Journeys, Overseas Adventure Travel and Road Scholar. This trip was as good as any of them, or better. Much more personal, and the small group size was a plus. Food is fabulous. Restaurants were wonderful. Vinyards and the sumptuous lunches were amazing. The sites we visited were fun, educational, historic and fascinating! The hotel in Bonnieux is as good as you could hope for: quiet, clean, with every amenity a small boutique hotel could provide. I liked the short travel times to destinations, the hiking and the picnic lunches with fresh ingredients from that day's market. Go to the Luberon -- you won't be disappointed. Kathy and Charlie have learned how to make this one of the best vacations you'll ever have!

Cornwall with European Experiences offered unparalleled white-glove organization and exemplary attention to detail! We loved our Cornwall trip for so many reasons. Kathy and Charley make a memorable adventure effortless and luxurious! From wonderful hotel recommendations in London, we were off to a great start. Kathy suggested we sit on the left side of the train to Penzance to see the Atlantic. Yes! This was followed by a seamless reception at the train station and transport to our hotel. We had a lovely huge room at Beach Hotel overlooking the Bay of Penzance. So relaxing -- and a beautiful beginning to our wonderful adventure. Bob and I have favorites on the Cornwall Experience: tours of the ancient moors, the Isles of Scilly, the boat and ferry rides and the awesome Mousehole Men's Choir. From Penzance to the Atlantic, our local guide Tony led us through the moors to eons-old stone formations including the Merry Maidens. The ancients believed these lands were sacred due to their transcendent horizons where land gently meets the sea and the sky. We learned this from our guide, an amiable professor born of the land and the sea. His family connection to the seafaring merchants of St Ives was gripping. We would never have found this on our own! Boat rides, we love them! Especially on big ferries cruising 25 miles out into the Atlantic to the Isles of Scilly. No way would we have discovered this: a gorgeous 5-star hotel with luxurious rooms, attentive service and elegant meals, on an island of 140 people, with breathtakingly beautiful views. We took nature cruises to rock islands where birds rest on their flights across the ocean and where palm trees and ginger plants flourish due to the Gulf stream. Idyllic! Finally, I'll mention a very favorite: the Mousehole Men's Choir. Who knew what to expect? After a delicious pub dinner, we walked across the lane to an ancient church with enviable acoustics. As we entered, about 50-70 men were singing Bridge Over Troubled Waters, practicing: tenors, then baritones, then bass, then all together. The choir, composed of men from 25-80 years old from miles around this tiny village, has kept this tradition for decades. They sing in England and travel internationally. The evening was indescribably moving. Intense emotion and loyalty to tradition. We were in tears, such a unique homage to their love of country. My last thoughts, as my first: we couldn't have discovered these adventures on our own, especially with this level of ease, comfort, luxury, delicious meals, pleasant travelling companions and unique moments. Thank you, Kathy and Charley, for sharing your expertise and enriching our lives! We look forward to our next trip with you!

Morocco is diverse in landscapes and rich in culture. Whether in the Atlas Mountains, Marrakech, or Essaouira, the influences of Arab, Berber, European and African are reflected in the riads, medinas, and ancient cities.
